What each cover does

These are the most common types of cover, though others may be available depending on your circumstances. Scroll through them, or pick one.

Life insurance

Pays out
The mortgage, or a lump sum
When
If you die during the policy

It can mean the people you leave behind keep the home, without a mortgage to pay.

Worth thinking about if anyone depends on your income.

Critical illness cover

Pays out
Usually one lump sum
When
If you're diagnosed with a serious illness, as defined in the policy

You can use it for the mortgage and the bills while you can't work.

Each policy lists the illnesses it covers. We can go through the list with you.

Income protection

Pays out
A monthly income
When
If illness or injury stops you working

It can help you keep up the mortgage and the bills while you recover.

It helps to know what sick pay your employer gives you first.

Buildings and contents

Buildings
The structure, against risks such as fire, flood, storm and subsidence
Contents
Your belongings, against theft or damage

Lenders require buildings insurance from exchange of contracts, because that's when the home becomes your responsibility.

Life insurance

Life insurance can give your family financial security if the worst happens. It can pay a lump sum to clear the mortgage, cover the everyday bills, or make life a little easier at a hard time.

There are different types of cover. Level term insurance pays the same amount whenever you claim during the policy. Decreasing term insurance goes down over time, and people often pair it with a repayment mortgage, because the amount you owe goes down too.

We'll take the time to understand what matters to you and help you find cover that suits your needs and your budget.

Critical illness cover

A serious illness can turn life upside down, and worrying about money makes a hard time even harder. Critical illness cover can pay a lump sum if you're diagnosed with one of the conditions your policy covers and you meet the policy's definition.

You could use the money to pay the mortgage, cover the household bills, or give yourself some breathing space while you focus on your health and recovery.

Some policies also include children's critical illness cover, as standard or as an optional extra. It can pay out if your child is diagnosed with a covered condition, to help with time off work, travel, childcare or other costs. The level of cover and the conditions included vary between insurers.

Income protection

Your income pays the mortgage, the bills and everyday life. So what would happen if illness or injury meant you couldn't work?

Income protection can pay you a regular income while you're unable to work and meet the terms of your policy, so you can keep on top of your commitments while you recover. Some policies can also cover your mortgage payments if you're made redundant.

We can help you choose the right level of cover and fit it around your circumstances and your budget.

Buildings and contents

Your home is one of your biggest commitments, so the right cover really matters. Buildings insurance protects the structure of your property and your mortgage lender will normally require it. Contents insurance protects the things inside your home.

You can add useful extras, such as accidental damage cover, cover for personal possessions you take away from home, home emergency cover for problems like plumbing or heating breakdowns, and legal expenses cover for certain legal costs and disputes.

We'll help you find cover that gives you the protection you need, without paying for extras you don't.

More than just insurance

Many protection policies come with extra support for your health and wellbeing, and you don't always have to make a claim to use it. Often it's there from the day your policy starts. Depending on the provider and policy, it can include:

  • 24/7 virtual GP appointments
  • Second medical opinions
  • Support from qualified nurses
  • Mental health and counselling
  • Physiotherapy
  • Nutrition advice
  • Bereavement support
  • Health checks
  • Fitness support
  • Legal guidance

Some providers let your partner or children use certain services too, so your family gets extra support as well. We look beyond the price of a policy and explain the extras that come with it, so you get more from your cover.

Additional services vary between providers and policies and may be changed or withdrawn by the provider. Eligibility and terms apply.

How Andy helps you choose cover

Insurance can feel like a maze of small print. Andy's job is to make it simple, then let you decide.

  • He starts with what you already have

Cover through work, a policy you took out years ago, the sick pay you'd get. Andy looks at it all first, so you can see where the gaps are.

  • He explains it in plain English

What each policy pays, when it pays and what it doesn't cover. Ask as many questions as you like.

  • You decide, with no pressure

Andy suggests cover that fits your mortgage and the people who rely on you. What you take, if anything, is up to you.

“Andy was very professional and listened to everything I needed. He arranged my mortgage in lightning time and also made very good suggestions for my life cover, with no pressure.”
